Member Officials Tier Assignment Qualifications

Tiers are classifications of Officials based on experience and abilities. Tiers are assigned to officials to compensate members for experience and performance. Tiers reward members for development, participation and enrichment of Tampa Bay Basketball Officials philosophy as an official.

Tiers are determined by Tampa Bay Basketball Officials Managers Dave Queen, Jarrett Harvey and Ray Lewis based on knowledge, observations, and interactions with members. Tier Assignments will be evaluated during training sessions twice each year only.

Tier Assignments will determine pay scale for each member at each event. Compensation will change based on TBBO agreements with each event. TBBO to always seek the best compensation for our members.

All professional Officials’ Association compensation is based on experience level. TBBO will raise your Tier Lead, I – III, and pay as you improve performance, training and experience. TBBO will not be aware of everything that you achieve. You are responsible for updating your registration form to document your resume skills.

Negative Impacts on Your Tier Rating

• Years of experience starts at the end of full year. April to April: 1 year. April to Jan: 18 months.
• Consistently late for game assignments.
• Walks, lacks hustle and poor positioning on the Court.
• Failure to confirm game assignments.
• High maintenance/argumentative members.

Examples: Asking questions of previously stated, emailed or texted material because you failed to read or save it. Information is always changing — ‘Camp is Camp.’ If you do not understand or information is unclear, ask a colleague/member first.

• “I do not have Zelle.” Then we will pay you cash in hand. This is how TBBO pays and records information. We understand the perceived problems and past issues, but when in Rome you must speak Italian.
• Fails to pay attention and record number of games when being paid. TBBO wants to pay you on time correctly.
• I-4, 275, and 75 North to Wesley Chapel will always be traffic heavy. This is not an excuse.
• “I was booked at something else.” TBBO always allows you to take a higher assignment, or your primary sport. But failing to block a similar game assignment is not acceptable on any level. Do not turn back previously accepted assignments for TBBO assignments. This is not professional.
• Failure to respond or ghosting. Not accepting assignments after providing availability.
• Not knowing or misapplying tournament rules as emailed, posted in the locker room, or at the table.
• Requesting more games and then often turning back games.

Summary

Registration: $35.00, due October 1st.

Many Officials will accelerate up the Tiers at a rapid pace by seeking additional training and extra work. The templates will be followed with exceptions made by Management. Comparison of your skills vs. another member is not acceptable. Our goal is to elevate members quickly, and for all Officials to be Tier Leads.

TBBO recognizes that many officials believe that everyone is equal and should be paid equally. Many Officials do not wish to accept or seek additional training to improve. We utilize members who treat the Game with respect and wish to improve the Game, themselves and others. TBBO is not for everyone. TBBO is an FHSAA Association.
